Leadership at Our Lord's

Our Leadership

At OLCC our elders govern, our deacons serve, our ministry leaders lead and our people minister.

The overall purpose of our leadership structure is to develop a leadership climate that...

1. empowers our ministry leaders,

2. encourages aggressive progress,

3. broadens a sense of ownership and

4. preserves biblical oversight and accountability

Elders.  The oversight of all ministries at OLCC rests with our elders, who are suggested by the people and selected by a joint board of elders and deacons to three year terms.

Deacons.  This group of mature servant leaders provides vital supporting services.  To make the best use of their leadership and gifting/expertise, each deacon leads a specific service ministry and builds a team (if needed) to help them.  Deacons serve under the oversight of the elders, staff or the ministry leader they are supporting with their service.

Consistory.  The "consistory" is the joint board of elders, deacons and ministers.  This group holds the ultimate authority at OLCC.  Under normal conditions, the consistory provides a representative forum of mature leaders to...

1. discuss strategic direction,

2. build unity,

3. strengthen communication to/from the congregation

Under exceptional conditions, the consistory provides a "safety net" of authority to protect the church  from errant subordinate leaders and boards.

Lead Pastor.  The Lead Pastor is the spiritual leader of the church.  He is to "feed and lead" the church.  He feeds by providing biblical preaching and training to inspire and equip the people to follow Jesus and fulfill their ministries.  He leads by providing Spirit-led vision, mission and strategy.

Ministry Leaders.  Ministry leaders lead our ministries.  While our congregation and the community beyond are our "primary customers", our ministry leaders - some paid staff, some deacons and some lay leaders - are the key leaders in our organizational structure.  Within the guidelines provided by the church, vision-mission-strategy and by their appointed supervisor, each ministry leader decides the objectives, strategy, budget and activities for his/her ministry.  The rest of the organization is here to empower these leaders to serve their teams and the people they reach through their ministries.

The People.  The people are the "ministers" at OLCC.  the people are the ones gifted, called and accountable to "do the work of the ministry".  OLCC moves forward in its assignment to "Be and make disciples" as the leaders train, envision and encourage the people to minister...and as the people fulfill their personal callings both in the body and in the community.
